FOUNDER & Chief Executive Officer
Ravi Mahadevia
Ravi spent three years with Deloitte Consulting in their Strategy & Operations group working with clients such as Humana, Aetna and BCBS of Kansas City. He was responsible for designing and implementing cost reduction strategies, agent distribution strategies and overall enterprise strategy. After Deloitte, Ravi joined Lincoln International where he focused on mergers and acquisitions for mid-market clients. He helped close seven deals over his two year tenure focusing on the healthcare industry.
Most recently, Ravi founded Somnium Sleep Solutions in early 2012. He currently presides over all aspects of the company and has utilized his healthcare knowledge and expertise to lead the continued growth and development of the company. Ravi leads the senior management team as Somnium continues to accomplish strategic and long-term objectives while maintaining its focus on patient satisfaction and operational excellence.
Ravi holds a BA in psychology and economics from Northwestern University and a MBA majoring in Healthcare Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Akshay Mahadevia
Dr. Akshay Mahadevia is one of the premier physicians in his field, practicing pulmonary and sleep medicine since 1983. His board certifications include internal medicine, pulmonary and sleep medicine.
Dr. Mahadevia has 25 years of experience in the field of sleep medicine. He has authored publications in many reputable medical journals, including the American Review of Respiratory Diseases, related to positive pressure therapy in sleep apnea. Dr. Mahadevia’s study, “Effects of Expiratory Positive Pressure in Sleep Apnea” led to the invention of ProVent therapy for OSA.
In addition, he is currently involved in clinical trials related to the treatment of sleep apnea and a pilot study related to sleep health and wellness. He is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians and American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Penny Grunder
Penny has worked in healthcare for 20 years and has been an RPSGT since 1999.
Penny holds an AAS in Electroneurodiagnostics from Scott Community College and a BS in Psychology from Iowa State University. She has served as Sleep Lab Manager for both hospital and free standing facilities, been an outpatient rehabilitation facilities manager, and the Director of Operations for a small healthcare organization. Penny spent 5 years working specifically in the field of sleep in the transportation industry. She currently owns her own LLC providing home sleep testing for uninsured and underinsured transportation professionals.
Penny has extensive knowledge in sleep billing, marketing, insurance negotiations, HSTs, transportation, and diagnostic testing. Penny’s professional activities include past membership on the Government Affairs standing committee and current membership on the Educational Products standing committee at a national level, and is an active board member at the state level of her professional societies. Penny speaks frequently at professional meetings and also to the public to educate on sleep.
Penny is responsible for overseeing and guiding all day-to-day operations of Somnium. She manages all staff members, implements all Somnium policies and procedures, leads all marketing efforts and presides over revenue growth, margin control and monthly financial goals.

David Wheatcraft
David is a valued consultant with Somnium Health Solutions. David has worked in healthcare for over 30 years and has been an RPSGT since 2005, and a Registered Respiratory Therapist since early 1990s.
David holds an RRT from DMACC in Ankeny Iowa, early 1990s, and a bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa in 1995. He served starting as a floor RT in Des Moines Mercy Hospital, Lead Pulmonary Rehab therapist in hospital, and managed hospital DME. David was Director of Patient Services for a DME company and owned and operated a business in DME and Sleep. Currently, David owns and operates a company in which he contracts with Critical Assess Hospitals and is involved with RT services of all modalities, sleep labs, Cardiac Rehab and Pulmonary Rehab programs.
David enjoys time with family, enjoys time on quads at family farms and small fix it jobs around the house. He loves his years of taking care of patients and providing great patient care.

Patrick O'Brien
Somnium Health Solutions is happy to have Patrick as a valued consultant. Patrick has three decades of experience in leadership and respiratory care and is a highly driven professional focused on achieving positive patient outcomes.
In the past 30 years since Patrick graduated from DMACC in Des Moines, he has worked as a floor Respiratory Therapist and managed a national company's home care branch. Patrick also became a sleep tech in 2005 and had experience in that area which has proven helpful.
Patrick received his BS degree in 2013 from Independence University with a major in Respiratory Therapy and has plans to continue his education.
Patrick currently co-owns a private company involved in Cardiac Rehab., Pulmonary Rehab., Sleep lab services, and Respiratory Therapy while consulting for Somnium Health Solutions.
